Dear Kids : I hope you’ll always know you can come home to Mom for a warm meal and a hug.
Today I asked my kids what they wanted for dinner.
Orange chicken (yep frozen from Costco) or homemade stew??
In UNISON : “Stew mom!!! Make the stew and biscuits!”
So I started browning the meat.
My oldest son came in and took a “deep breath” and smiled.
He hugged me and said “that smells so good mom.”
My middle daughter wandered in and stole a few carrots from the cutting board with a sneaky smile as I chopped.
My toddler climbed up to the counter and played with his cars as I prepped the potatoes. He held out his hand for one and I laughed when he tried it and spit it out.
“Yucky” he says.
So I slipped him a few marshmallows and winked. We gotta cook it buddy. 🤣🤣.
My teenager wandered in with the dog following her to tell me about her school work.
The teething baby is sleeping.
The stew is simmering.
The sun is streaming through my windows.
I stand in my kitchen and just breathe.
This is MY motherhood.
This is Just the normal in and out, daily routine of BEING a family.
And it’s my everything.
It’s these SLOW simple days that add up to the years that pass so quickly.
It’s the making meals, cleaning messes, giving baths, doing laundry, reading books, running errands, and tucking into bed.
It’s the prayers and deep conversations weaved in between the disagreements, teasing, and laughter.
This is my motherhood.
And it’s MY EVERYTHING. ❤️
️I hope when they’re grown they’ll come home and walk into the kitchen and take a deep breath and ask “what’s for dinner?”
I hope they’ll come home and tell me about their lives while I prep veggies.
I hope they’ll know I’m always here for a hug and a marshmallow treat when life gets heavy.
Kids. I hope you know your mama, and this SLOW and STEADY, this imperfect, messy, crazy big family life filled with love, will always be here for you.
