My surprising realization of why I love HOMESCHOOLING.

Homeschooling

I don’t want (them) to miss a thing.

I’m with your daughter more everyday than YOU are!

She said it with a smile.

She said it out of LOVE for my daughter.

She said it because she TRULY enjoyed having my daughter in class.

But in that moment, my mama heart shattered.

It was true. My daughter’s second grade teacher spent more time with her everyday than I did as her MOM!!

It was true! My daughter spent more waking hours at school and on the school bus everyday than I got to spend with her at home. 5 days a week. 9 months out of the year.

It was true what her teacher says.
She got to see my daughter laugh and play all day.
She got to see her show compassion to her friends.
She got to witness her emotional and educational breakthroughs.

SHE got to comfort her and hug her in her struggles and breakdowns.

I THOUGHT that was my most important reason to HOMESCHOOL my kids.

I thought that was going to be what I loved most about it.

THAT I GOT TO BE THE ONE THEY SPENT THE MOST TIME WITH.

THAT I GOT TO BE THE ONE to feel the joy, and carry the struggles with my kids everyday.

It thought it was SO IMPORTANT that I , the MOM, didn’t miss a thing.

Turns out, that is not my FAVORITE thing about homeschooling my 6 children.

What I didn’t realize was that not only was I missing those moments everyday, but my kids were ALSO missing out on BEING THERE FOR EACH OTHER!!

Homeschooling

I underestimated the JOY it would bring me watching my kids be HOME TOGETHER.

I underestimated the VALUE of them all being HOME to be with their baby sister and toddler brother.

I underestimated the VALUE of them being EACH OTHER’S TEACHERS and EACH OTHER’S BEST FRIENDS.

Watching my kids interact with each other everyday, day in and day out, has become my BIGGEST JOY in homeschooling.

Yes, they are ALL Home with ME.

Yes, I don’t miss a thing.

BUT THEY ALSO DON’T MISS A THING IN EACH OTHER’S LIVES.

IT HAS TRULY BEEN MORE AMAZING THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.

They help each other with math.
They read to each other
They play games and create crafts together.
They make each other sandwiches and snacks.
They teach the toddler new words and chase him around.
They comfort the baby when she’s fussy and find such joy in every new thing she does!

They would miss ALL of that if the were at school!

Do they fight ??

Yes!! But it also gives us the opportunity to work on character and patience everyday inside our own family!!

To the moms out there wanting to homeschool but you’re scared.
To the moms out there thrown into homeschool because of unexpected life circumstances like a viral pandemic.

I know!!⁣ Homeschooling all your kids seems overwhelming!

I know Having ALL your kids home 24/7 feels like A LOT. ⁣

I really worried we’d all loose our minds when we decided to homeschool. ⁣#becausesixkids ⁣
Being together all the time??⁣ Are we completely insane? ⁣

But honestly? Something different happened!! ⁣

Since we started homeschooling my kids have bonded together like never before! ⁣

They spend hours playing , laughing, and exploring together. ⁣ honestly ?? They actually fight less now.
#gofigure ⁣#didntseethatcoming

They teach each other in creative ways that I could never think of!

Sure, Sometimes we all need personal space. (Because the noise level #likewoah🤪🤪) ⁣

But for the most part, our 6 kids are growing to love each other fiercely and genuinely enjoy each other. ⁣

They especially enjoy our toddler and baby. Which just melts my mama heart ❤️❤️(And helps when I have 9,000 things to do and need extra hands) ⁣

Truly. I had so many fears about homeschooling.⁣

But I just can’t imagine sending them back to school! ⁣

I know a lot of people were thrown into homeschooling with this Coronavirus crisis.⁣

At FIRST being together 24/7 is a massive adjustment. ⁣

But mamas I promise, you WILL find a flow!! You WILL adjust. ⁣

And over time, you might just find out that you aren’t just surviving …..but you’re THRIVING in this newness.⁣

Over time, You’ll see what I see.

You’ll see that not only are YOU able to experience your children in all their ups and downs everyday, but they will be able to be there for EACH OTHER!!

The bonds it has created for us. are priceless.

I pray you’ll grow into homeschool and find it’s wonderful magic like our family has.
